Every ActaVia user who transacts verifies their identity with Stripe Identity — a government ID and a selfie: witnesses before taking or bidding on an opportunity, notaries before submitting their first state license, and businesses before posting.
Notaries verify their identity and upload their state license with proof of commission and E&O insurance, reviewed and approved by the ActaVia team before a notary can post in that state.

Signing documents are end-to-end encrypted, and only the people on the signing who need them can open them. The exact address stays hidden until a worker is approved. Messaging is private and in-app, between the poster and each approved worker.
ActaVia does not run background checks. Badges reflect platform activity only — not legal certification, licensing, or insurance verification. ActaVia is a marketplace, not a notarization service or legal advisor; the notary remains responsible for verifying witness identity and eligibility under applicable law.

No. ActaVia is a marketplace, not an employer. Notaries and witnesses on ActaVia are independent professionals: they choose which opportunities to respond to and when they're available, and posters choose who they work with.
No. Witnesses don't need a notary commission. They verify their identity with Stripe before taking or bidding on an opportunity. Notaries can also take witness opportunities.
No. Posting is limited to notaries with an approved license for the state of the signing, and to standard business and signing-service accounts. Witnesses browse and respond to opportunities.
No. ActaVia is a marketplace. Opportunities depend on what notaries and businesses post in your area, and we can't guarantee opportunities or earnings.

Joining is free. Witnesses pay no fees on their work and receive 100% of the agreed compensation; an optional Witness Pro plan adds extra tools, but you never need it to work. Posters pay a posting fee plus a service fee on top of the compensation. Notary plans lower or remove the posting fee depending on the plan, business plans remove it, and your first plan starts with a free trial. See current amounts on the fee schedule.
